Enter Alex's Amazing World
Kids get pretty bored most of the time - but not Alex. This prodigious youngster has all sorts of ideas up his sleeve, each one more wacky than the last. Enter his world of mind-boggling puzzles and crazy contraptions and help him feed his passion. Behold the Amazing Alex!
Gameplay is presented as a series of more than 100 levels of increasing difficulty. You will be placed in a small room with various objects on the screen and in your toolbox. Your main objective is to use these objects, be they footballs, tables, books or whatever else, to cause the right kind of chain reaction, knocking over other objects like dominoes. At the bottom of the screen is your inventory containing a set of all items you can use in a level. Once you set things in motion by tapping your tennis ball, watch as your wondrous physics experiment comes to life and Newton's laws of motion take effect. The physics in the game are quite accurate, so you don't have to worry about your ball flying somewhere where it shouldn't.
Once all obstacles have been knocked down in sequence, the level will be considered complete and your score will come up. Scoring is done using a three-star rating system, fairly standard for Rovio games. Achieving three stars is simple enough in the early stages, since levels only have one desired path to completion. Objectives are also limited to getting your tennis ball/ soccer ball into a basket, or simply running the course correctly. In earlier levels, sets of broken lines also indicate where objects are meant to be placed, which in all honesty made things a bit too easy. When this option disappears, though, things get a bit more interesting. Levels also become more interesting when more objects come into play such as balloons or scissors.
Controls in the game make excellent use of the touch screen, allowing you to drag and move objects, rotate them, and place them precisely where you want. I never experienced any difficulty here, aside from when other apps would interrupt me. One thing in particular that I enjoy about the game is that high levels of precision are not required when setting up objects. A level may have a single method of completion, but a few extra degrees of rotation for a table isn't going to alter the outcome.
If you want to share your ideas with a player, you can record how you completed a level and your friends can then play it in their sidebar. The more friends that play the game, the better since you will have far more solutions - particularly for the more challenging levels. Exiting the 'classroom' where levels take place lets you access other areas.
One of the best features of this game is that you can create your own levels and share them with other users. This lets you be as creative or as fiendish as you want when placing stars and choosing objects. Use any object that you have encountered in levels so far, placing up to 32 objects into a room
One of the best features of this game is that you can create your own levels and share them with other users. This lets you be as creative or as fiendish as you want when placing stars and choosing objects. Use any object that you have encountered in levels so far, placing up to 32 objects into a room. Provide the player with the tools to complete the level, or mislead them by placing useless objects around. When you have completed a level, you can save it and make it available for download. If you want to revise it, all levels can be accessed in My Levels. Levels created by other players can be accessed in Downloaded Levels. To download a level, tap the globe icon at the top of the screen. Additional levels can also be unlocked within the game in your Back Yard.
Graphics, Visuals and Sound
Rovio has always been known for its unique set of sound effects. Graphics are sharp, colorful, bright and detailed for all objects. Textures are fairly light, as are object borders, so everything flows together well. Level backgrounds remain fairly static, but the gameplay is central here so that's to be expected. The music complements the gameplay way, with calming acoustic guitar, so the player never feels under a lot of pressure.
If you're looking for a more creative approach to physics-based puzzles, Amazing Alex will definitely do the trick. Send your ball, balloon or other object into a chain reaction of flipping tables, scissors, falling boxes and whatever else Alex can come up with and experience the wonders of real-time physics in action. With over 100 levels, many objects to use, a three-star rating system to push for those perfect scores and simple touch-screen controls, the game is ideal for newcomers and veterans of puzzle games. After you've mastered the levels on offer you will gradually unlock objects that you can use to create your own levels and share with other users. You can also choose and download custom levels from a database of thousands from the main website, meaning you'll never be bored. The game has some cute graphics, sound effects and music to go along with it.
