Hyper Dragon Ball Z is a fighting game inspired by Akira Toriyama's famous Dragon Ball series ,developed by Z2, in which you have the chance to fight with all of your favorite Dragon Ball characters with animations, moves and stages all reminiscent of the show.
Core Gameplay and Features
Hyper Dragon Ball Z is one of many games which attempts to fully capture the essence of Dragon Ball in a game. The player can choose from two modes, Arcade Mode and Versus Mode. Versus mode offers 28 playable characters which is more than enough for most fans of the series. There are also a wide range of maps which have some of the more common environments in the game.
In many respects, it is presented as an ordinary fighting game, with an energy bar for your 'Life' as well as a power bar for special attacks. Once you have chosen your character, you will soon become aware of each of their special abilities, their strengths and their inherent weaknesses. That is part of the game's charm. Similar to other popular fighting games, each character serves to complement a different style of play, whether being aggressive or conservative. The game does not conform to the button mashers of old, but there is still a decent amount of it. With a few keys, the user can control and execute all moves with their character with ease.
As with a lot of fighting games, while simple enough to learn the basics, the game is very difficult to master. Battles are frenetic and fast-paced, requiring quick reactions and a well-informed sense of timing. Battle mechanics are done according to your energy bar and your power bar. The higher your combo value when attacking, the more your power bar will increase and the more damage you will do. Combos can be executed by inputting various button commands with your character. Keeping up a combo as long as possible is the best way to win, and is also the most exciting way to play. Pummeling your opponent half way across the screen without letting him touch the ground is quite a satisfying feeling! If you're quick enough you can also counter your opponent's physical attacks and projectiles with your own.

Graphics, Physics, Sound
The graphics and animations in the game are quite impressive. Characters all resemble in both look and movement the general behavior of their anime counterparts. This extends to their special abilities and the force of their blows. The shaky effects implemented here really make you feel every single hit your character inflicts. The special moves are also a wonder to behold, offering typically over-the-top cinematics and vocals. Hurl fireballs at your foes, charge at them with blinding speed, send pain their way in dozens of uniquely brutal ways!
Embrace the Dragon Ball legacy with this gripping and highly competitive fighting game. The characters each have their own unique playstyle, and with 28 characters to choose from, you're bound to find one that suits. Gameplay is fast-paced, action-packed, and filled with excessive graphical flourishes, tantalizing visual effects and tons of Dragon Ball-esque imagery and dialogue. If you're a fan of the show, there's no better way to honor it than to beat each other senseless in this brilliant fighting game. Well worth playing!
