VideoLAN is a free computer application that can be used to view and reproduce video in a variety of formats including, MPEG, MPEG-2 and DVD. This multi-platform media player was originally developed by a group of 20 students and has taken off like wildfire. It includes its own plug-ins which eliminates the need for additional codecs. Can also be used as a server for streaming video on a variety of platforms including Windows, Mac and Linux, just to name a few. The most recent version released allows you to preview files before they are completely downloaded which definitely saves time. VideoLAN works with Microsoft Windows 98, 2000 and XP operating systems. A recently released version also supports Microsoft Vista. The snazzy, visually appealing interface also supports four languages including, English, Spanish, Italian and German.
