You can open, view or print Excel Workbooks, even when Excel is not installed in your PC. To do this you need to download Excel Viewer 2003, which is provided by Microsoft as a replacement of their previous versions of Excel Viewer. While data can be copied from Excel Viewer 2003 to another format, you cannot change (edit) or save or create workbook with the viewer.
Interestingly, Excel Viewer 2003 also supports Microsoft Office Excel 2007 document (.xlsx) or even Microsoft Office Excel 2007 macro-enabled document (.xlsm).
When you download the viewer package, you get the “xlviewer.exe” file (9.9 MB), which you’ll need to run to install Excel Viewer 2003. However, you have to remember to install all High Priority Updates (Service Pack) from Microsoft Updates after installing the Excel Viewer 2003. Just search for ‘Excel Viewer 2003 Service Pack’ and you’ll get it.
