Google Gears

Google Gears

Google Gears is a free open-source browser extension brought to you by Google which allows the use and production of more powerful web applications by adding new features on your web browser. It lets developers create web applications that can run offline. It is released under the BSD license and supports all the major internet browsers such as the Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. It offers three features. The first one is a local server which functions to cache and serve application resources (HTML, JavaScript, images, etc.) without needing to contact a server. The second is a database for storing and accessing data from within the browser. Lastly, a worker thread pool that makes web applications more reactive by doing expensive operations in the background.
