Slender 2015 is a free survival horror game for PC, developed by Dark Pathogen Studios. It is based on the internet myth of Slender, created in an online forum in 2009, as well as the indie game of the same name. It is available to download in its full version, completely free.
The Slender Legacy
If you were a regular internet user in 2009, you may have come across Slender before in forums. He is depicted as an unnaturally tall and slender man wearing a suit with a seemingly featureless face. His creation by Eric Knudsen was apparently based on a combination of narrative and other myths in popular culture. Soon after his creation an indie game of the same name was created, and it is from this that Slender 2015 was born (AKA Slenderman's Shadow). If you are someone who revels in the thrill of horror, and is particularly fascinated by the Slenderman story, then this game might be just what you're looking for. Can you escape the seemingly inescapable Slenderman from taking you away?
Slender Chances of Success
The Slender Man, as he is called, will chase you endlessly and tirelessly. When he catches you, it's game over. This is the game's central premise, and in its simplicity it has meant thousands of hours of enjoyment for its players. In this game, you will have eight scenarios to complete, each with a diverse set of deceptively simple objectives attached. Environments, while innocent, make for some terrifying exploratory gameplay: a carnival, an insane asylum, a hospital, 7th street, a prison and others. Unlike in the original Slender, your objectives will vary from the simple collection of 'papers' on the walls (though this is still a factor). Collection remains the central objective, but your objects will vary and are much more difficult to find. Scrambling around for the last piece of a puzzle while Slender is on your tail makes things all the more interesting. A basic narrative for each scenario (with some impressive voice acting) also gives a bit of depth to each encounter and motivates the player to continue.
The Tentative Art of Exploration
As with most horror games, sound and visual design is an absolutely essential part of creating a tense, nerve-racking, terrifying atmosphere for gameplay. As you wander through environments, you will have just a faint flashlight ahead of you to guide you, capable of illuminating a very small space in front of you. Every corner you turn means potential danger, while also your salvation if you come across one of your objectives. To supplement this sense of impending danger, every step is marked by echoes and spot-on sound design; every breath is loud and labored. While at first, you are seemingly safe in the silence, the further you progress the more tense the music will get, with more frequent appearances of Slender. This will quicken your pace and your breathing, adding a terrifying sense of realism to each encounter and dynamism to the already immersive sound effects. The environments are a lot bigger in this game, too, and their design is meant to mislead, confuse and disorient the player. For this reason, the designers have included glowsticks, a mobile light source which enables the player to map out the area by placing them in previously visited locations. Another dynamic feature added to scenarios are puzzles, requiring you to think on your feet, find items such as keys, and use them to progress to the next part of a stage - all while Slender is making his move.

Without a doubt, the most fun is derived from this game when Slender is nearby, providing the most enthralling audio-visual experience imaginable. The tension, the fear, the anxiety, the quick reactions, everything culminates in your escape or your demise. This is the true enjoyment that lies in Slender games. It is this linearity which makes it such a joy to play, and is what gives the game its replay value. There were times, however, when I noticed that Slender would cue the death animation without actually being close to you, resulting in a kind of 'glitched' death. This made the art of escape far less enjoyable at times.
Slender 2015 is a polished update to the popular horror game, offering more challenging scenarios, diverse objectives and puzzles. Exploration becomes all the more interesting with an updated graphical and sound engine, making every step tense, terrifying and tentative, all while Slenderman stalks you. The inclusion of glowsticks mean you won't get lost as easily, which nicely supplements the larger environments. The dynamic shifts in the music and sound effects as he gets closer further add to the tension and are perhaps the biggest draw of this game. If you're a fan of survival horror and want something that will truly terrify you, Slender 2015 is definitely a game worth checking out.
